Course description       


The Basic Handgun Course is a 3-hour class that covers all the basics of purchasing, owning, operating, maintaining, and cleaning a handgun. This class is ideal for first time or novice shooters ages 10+, or for anyone wanting to build a good foundation of firearms knowledge. Topics include things to look for when purchasing a firearm, issues in owning a firearm, fundamentals of operating a firearm, fundamentals of marksmanship, firearm maintenance, and cleaning. All minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

1. SELF-DEFENSE FIREARM BASICS:

  1. Universal safety rules

  2. Clearing a semi-automatic    

  3. Clearing a revolver

  4. Additional safety considerations    

  5. Defining a gun’s action    

  6. Understanding revolvers    

  7. Understanding semi-automatics    

  8. Modern, striker-fired handguns    

  9. What happens when the trigger is pressed    

  10. Understanding magazines    

  11. Selecting a handgun    

  12. Pros and cons of handgun choices    

  13. Ammunition components    

  14. Ammunition care and storage    

  15. Common ammunition malfunctions    

  16. Clearing semi-auto malfunctions 

  17. Other use of force options


2. DEFENSIVE SHOOTING FUNDAMENTALS:

  1. Defensive shooting versus marksmanship    

  2. Proper grip    

  3. Shooting platform

  4. Aligning the muzzle to the target    

  5. Unsighted fire, point shooting    

  6. Flash sight picture

  7. Sighted fire

  8. Trigger control





Cost:  $20.00  $5.00 goes to books and material s and $15.00 go towards The Independence fund
